CONTEST: Get Your Remix/Re-Edit Featured On A ‘Kon & The Gang’ Compilation via Legitmix

World-famous digger Kon (of Kon & Amir), who was called the “re-edit/rework king of 2012″ by Gilles Peterson, is putting together a 6-track compilation, Kon & The Gang, featuring two of his edits. To complete the set, Kon will select the final four remixes and re-edits from his favorites amongst the most popular submissions in this contest, hosted by our friends at Legitmix.

The Kon & The Gang compilation, along with the winning entries, will be sold on Legitmix, a new revolutionary platform where remixers can sell and promote their work without sample-clearances.

Be sure to read the contest rules, and then submit your track(s) to www.legitmix.com.

Kon, Giant Step and Legitmix are looking to foster the symbiotic relationship between remixers and the artists they sample. “Bring old classics to a whole new audience,” Kon explains. “Or remix or rework giants to get known. But make sure you sample music you love, music that makes you think of summer. This is not about hiding samples, or getting one over on anyone. With Legitmix, both remixer and sampled artist get credited and paid, and everything gets worked out with technology, not lawyers and paperwork. That’s what edits and remixes should be about: a seamless partnership between producers and the artists they sample.”

Raised by music loving parents, Kon has been digging in record crates since 76, djing since 85, and spinning in clubs since 91. He’s one half of Kon & Amir, who released the acclaimed “On Track” and “Off Track” series on BBE Records where they introduced forgotten rare grooves to a whole new audience.

And when Kon started flexing his producing muscle, it wasn’t about being secretive about the people he reworked, but paying them tribute and making them relevant to a new audience. This deep respect for digging and mixing prompted Gilles Peterson to name Kon “edit/rework king” of 2012, and feature him prominently and enthusiastically on several of his BBC Radio shows. In the words of Soul Clap: “Kon is the best Disco/Funk/Soul/Boogie DJ in the world.” Kon takes a more modest approach, noting that Kon means “king of nothing,” and seeks to place the love of music in general above his own work. Contest Rules
Submissions must be tagged with “Kon and the Gang” and priced at 50 cents.

All contestants get a free premium Legitmix release enabling them to collect 70% of the sale of their remix (as part of the compilation or individually) plus a 5% commission when the tracks they sampled are purchased from Legitmix. Contestants can promote their submission using the Legitmix widget, mix page and the lgt.mx Twitter URL. Kon will choose his four favorites from the submissions with those most page views, so be sure to use the Legitmix social media tools to get your work out there!

How It Works
Legitmix frees remixers from music clearance concerns by enabling them to share or sell a “Legitmix file,” which works like digital instructions to recreate a remixer’s work using the consumer’s copy of the sampled tracks. Consumers who don’t own the sampled track can buy it from Legitmix or iTunes. With Legitmix, both remixers and the artists they sample get promoted and paid. Visit www.legitmix.com to learn more.
