Giant Step is pleased to offer our DJs a download of Grace Kelly’s album, Trying To Figure It Out. The 23-year-old singer & saxophone player should be familiar to your speakers & television sets. Last December, Jon Batiste snagged Grace as a regular on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s band, Stay Human. She also appears on the Emmy-nominated Amazon Prime series Bosch where she performs “Blues For Harry Bosch,” a track on this album which also gets the remix treatment from popular spin-master, producer and Jazz/Electronica musician Mocean Worker.

Although steeped in Jazz, Trying To Figure It Out marks an adventure in sound exploring the world of Jazz & Beyond that takes the listener on a thought provoking and engaging musical journey. Starting from acoustic jazz and cinematic compositions driven by mood and sound effects, the album then moves to a genre-bending sound with contemporary production, groove, and songwriting – always mixed with improvisation.

Among the many artists and players guesting on the new album are Snarky Puppy’s Michael League (“He Shot A Man,” “Magic”) and Jon Batiste on “Lemons Make Lemonade,” which he recorded in one take in his dressing room following a taping of Colbert.

“Somewhere Over The Rainbow” is featured in Sound Of Redemption, the bio pic about the late great alto saxophonist Frank Morgan. He spent three decades in and out of California’s San Quentin Prison and was a mentor to Grace during the last few years of his life. In 2012, Grace performed at a Frank Morgan tribute concert at San Quentin as part of an all-star band. The experience inspired another track on the album, “He Shot A Man,” which Grace wrote after conversations with various inmates at San Quentin.

We received great responses on the self-titled album from St Germain (Ludovic Navarre), which dropped in October on Nonesuch Records, 15 years after the commercially and critically successful Tourist. On March 11, Navarre digitally releases a new set of four remixes of tracks from the current album, including a remix of “Real Blues” by DJ Deep & Romain Poncet, and three versions of “Sittin Here,” by Atjazz, Boddhi Satva and Terry Laird.

Navarre brings this larger-than-life show to North America this spring. A full itinerary is below. For the St Germain live show, which KCRW calls “a must see at this year’s Coachella,” Navarre will be joined by revered Malian guitarist and n’goni player Guimba Kouyate (whom Brian Eno recently heralded as “the greatest guitar player I’ve heard for years and years”), Senegalese kora player Cheikh Lo Ouza Diallo, and Brazilian percussionist Jorge Bezerra, all of whom perform on the album, as well as Didier Davidas (keyboard), Sadio Kone (n’goni), Edouard Labor (saxophone & flute) and Sullyvan Rhino (bass), with Navarre himself at the center, acting as musical director.
