“On his single ‘Talk About It,’ Hassle touches on the hardships of being in a relationship with someone that means everything to you. Hassle’s voice is heartfelt and soulful with a few characteristics that are reminiscent of early Prince.”– Pigeons & Planes

After traveling the world, writing and recording new music, and intentionally taking time out of the limelight for a couple of years, 25-year-old Swedish pop/soul singer and songwriter Erik Hassle is making a welcome return with his powerful new single, “Talk About It,” out 11/5. The single reflects the minimal R’n’B sound akin to Hassle’s taste of late. He’s currently working on a full-length album and plans to tour North America in early 2014.

Following the critically-acclaimed 2012 release of their beat-centric compilation Tempo Dreams Vol. 1 (assembled by Detroit/UK producer-at-large Tall Black Guy), Brooklyn wax purveyors Bastard Jazz Recordings have returned with Volume 2 of the enlightening, genre-bending series. This time around, the label has enlisted Bay Area mainstay DJ/producers Teeko & B. Bravo, driving forces behind the transformative “modern funk” sound emerging out of the West Coast. Sticking with the series’ theme of showcasing new styles and emerging artists, curated by their own musical peers, Teeko and Bravo have conjured up an LP of mind-blowing tracks that push the limits of soulful electronic funk, outernational boogie, and cosmic hip-hop. Tempo Dreams Vol. 2 picks up where the first edition left off, bridging the gaps between various geographic locations and local scenes, while also reaching for new heights with soaring vocal features and dance-floor primed beats.

This DJ promo features four choice album cuts: the 80′s R&B-styled bomb “Hard Pressed” by Rojai and E.Live is complemented by left coast collective Mugpush‘s “Came Too Far”, channeling a deft balance of smooth P-Funk with killer rhymes from the ever-versatile Black Spade. Also included are two tracks featured on the limited edition 7-inch teaser: the deep & sexy nighttime-synth vibes of the K-Maxx joint “Dreamin’ Of You”, backed with Teeko and Bravo’s own Starship Connection keeping things bumping with “We Can Go All Night”, complete with sexy boogie thump, understated vocals and twinkling synths.

Sounds Of The Onyx … may be the start of a new music sensation of ‘jazz rap,’ producing an intoxicating new sound of sublime vintage jazz recordings reworked into a more modern day urban vibe.” – Vibe

HBO‘s acclaimed drama series Boardwalk Empire® presents Sounds of The Onyx, a promo-only music project celebrating the show’s recently premiered fourth season and highlighting rare jazz recordings from the Prohibition Era. This DJ promo features the full set of remixes by Pete Rock, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Om’Mas Keith, Shafiq Husayn, JayCeeOh & B-Sides, and Tall Black Guy.

“A brilliant young British talent”
Pete Tong, BBC Radio 1
